I have posted previously about my association with Silmi and he should make his second chasing start at Worcester this afternoon. I say should because he has also been declared for Ffos Las tomorrow evening.

After his first win at Cartmel he has improved a lot at home and should come on for his chasing debut. This should be a bit more of a race than his last start after he won by 32l without coming off the bridle! However, the form isnt that strong with the second finishing last in a recent novices handicap chase.

For the time of year and the venue the race looks competitive enough with Paul Nicholls, Philip Hobbs and Jonjo O Neill having a runner in the race. Personally, I cant have the Nicholls trained Predateur. I think he is a bit ungenuine and against good horses could struggle to win. Warsaw Pact, representing Hobbs, is interesting on his chasing debut and over hurdles we would have to give him weight which does make him very well in. However, this is a difficult race to make a chasing debut in. I think Donaldson is the biggest threat to Silmi but having fallen last time out there are questions to ask of a novice. He is also rated significantly lower than Silmi over hurdles and we should be able to beat him at levels.

It is a harder race than Cartmel but I think he will win.

We are getting into the Sales season with Doncaster over the next couple of days and then Ascot in a fortnight.

Looking through some of the lots and what they have been made today my eyes have been drawn to Apartman a one time winner from three races in the UK.

On his hurdling debut he finished 2nd beaten 7l by Sir Tantallus Hawk at Newcastle. He led until three out when a mistake saw him overtaken and two further mistakes saw the winner put seven lengths between him at the line.

Then on his second start he was pitched into the Grade 1 Aintree Juvenile hurdle when he was pulled up behind Walkon at 200/1. Interestingly in the paddock before the race he was picked as a future winner by Eddie Fremantle, former WBX INSIGHT contributor and RUK expert as a horse who looked like a nice chaser. What price Eddie’s comment contributed to the final price?

Then on his final start of the season he went to Ayr where he won a Class 3 Juvenile Hurdle where he recorded his best Racing Post Rating of 132. The race was a four runner affair, where he beat Giorgio Quercus, Saticon and Marc Aurele.

Giorgio Quercus has been largely disappointing, Saticon despite starting well disappointed at Aintree and Marc Aurele obvoiusly had a problem as he was beaten over 70 lengths!

I am not saying that he wont go onto prove a shrewd purchase at 100k but what price Walkon and Zaynar now?

So please consider this before making any Ante Post bets this year!

There is a lot of talk at the moment about Patrick Veitch after the release of his book “Enemy Number 1″ and recent interviews on Channel 4 and Racing UK.

Anyway, Hitchens today catches my eye for a number of reasons. Firstly, he was supplemented for the race today at a signficant cost which connections will be looking to get back. Secondly, and perhaps more interesting, is that at the October Horses in Training Sales the horse was bought for 40k by Stuart Williams and sent to David Barron.

Stuart Williams is a successful trainer in Newmarket who is known to train horses for Patrick Veitch. David Barron is also a trainer to whom Veitch has used from time to time. Hitchens won his first race for his new trainer and if the market vibes are positive then he should certainly be worth following each way.

It is a strong race with Equiano and Tax Free in opposition but a win and place bet on WBX.COM could be worth having IF the money comes for the horse. If nothing else theyve got the supplementary money to get back!
